Time for a Check-Up

I went to the doctor yesterday afternoon for my monthly check-up. Things are settling in quite well and I don't go in with as nearly as many questions in hand as before (hehe). We did the usual (blood pressure, weight, etc.) which was all good. I about cried when the nurse kept bumping the scale higher and higher and higher until it finally landed on 127lbs! I know the weight gain is a good thing for McKenzie but it hurts to see that number. That brings me to a total of 15lbs gained this pregnancy. The doc seemed pleased that I had gained a good bit of weight since my last visit. That puts me right on track with where I should be and at this point I should soon start averaging a gain of a pound a week...that's scary. But then again I do seem to have the munchies all the time. I've recently discovered that despite my constant state of hunger I can't eat big meals all at once so I've taken to snacking continuously...it really helps with indigestion. Oh and just a quick side note but I broke the cardinal rule yesterday but it has to be ten times worse since I'm pregnant...A pregnant woman went to the store when she was hungry...shame on me I knew better LOL. My stomach is measuring perfectly for 21 weeks which was great news.

And now for the laugh out loud...only my kid story...

Before the doc comes in the nurse usually gets the fetal heart rate. Well yesterday McKenzie was just NOT having it. I told the nurse where she was sitting since she had been squirming for a while and so she started off hearing it but the minute she pushed down she moved. So the cat and mouse chase started. For 15 minutes the nurse tried to find her heartbeat but McKenzie was being stubborn. Between the nurse laughing and me laughing we weren't getting anywhere. For a while McKenzie hid behind my belly button and wouldn't move. The nurse would find her heartbeat and right before the doppler read it McKenzie was off again and we'd have to start all over. When the nurse would just about have it McKenzie would kick or punch my stomach (hence the doppler) and the whole thing would bounce off my stomach and make a crackling noise. The nurse commented on how much she really did move. So after a while the nurse took her arm and pushed her as far over to one side as possible and trapped her. She was able to get the reading just in time before McKenzie was fighting back. After all that her bpm is at 144. I guess the kiddo knew I needed a good laugh and the nurse said she needed a good stiff drink after her LOL. The doc even commented on how much and how hard her movements were thus far...that's what I've been trying to tell them :) All in all it was a good check-up despite McKenzie's stubbornness. Who knew someone so small in such a confined space could hide so well...mmmmm... I guess this means trouble for me when she starts walking. And just in case you were wondering what a fetal doppler monitor looks like I've included a picture.

Okay, I just laughed out loud sitting here in my office. I can't wait to meet this kid! Between her and Daniel, you'll never cease to be entertained, right?

Did you know that I was born with the umbilical cord wrapped 3 times around my neck? Be on guard when McKenzie is born! Enjoyed your story! Love, Grandma
