I've been procrastinating in making banana bread for weeks (I even think months) but I decided today was the day I was going to succeed. The bananas were ripe and I had all the ingredients but there was just one problem....McKenzie. Here lately, every and I mean EVERY time I go to cook whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner hey even a darn snack...it's like a timer that goes off and the whiny box starts! She clenches to my legs with arms reaching up with that wimpy whiny cry.
It annoys me. Plain and simple. It grates on my nerves. Makes me want to scream. I have a few times. Really loudly. Outside for all the neighbors to hear.
Today, yes today, I decided to take a different approach...a proactive one if you will. I have been waiting for the day that she would be old enough to help me cook in the kitchen. She's still young but since banana bread didn't deal with anything that could potentially turn bad I figured what the hay. I pulled a chair over and included her. NOW, I know what you mothers out there are thinking...you let her stand on a chair! YES I DID! I normally don't approve of her standing on chairs and yes it's a double standard but my sanity was at stake today...the whiny box started when she arose this morning. My big helper (and the silencing of the whine) was music to my ears! Ahhhh a few moments of peace and fun all mixed into one :) (Don't judge...you know you would do the same) We just discovered though that she's not a fan of the hand mixer...but that's ok. The banana bread turned out fabulous and McKenzie is taking it to her DaDaddy tomorrow (since we made a special batch just for him with raw sugar). I had loads of fun baking with her and she had loads of fun helping me and beating the measuring cups together :) These days she just wants to do whatever I'm doing and I'm glad she's getting older so I can include her in those things. Just so you know....she's a master at the laundry....except maybe the folding part haha!
Here's the baking of BB in pictures:
The whine did start again after we had finished...well it was nice while it lasted...I did get it stop again for a while when I gave her a peice of the BB since she stood at the counter begging for it. After she was already chowing down I realized it had nuts in it...whoops...oh well...but hey guess what...I figured out she's not allergic to pecans and walnuts! Good we can check those off the list LOL. (side note: you may be wondering what the big deal is about the nuts...well I'm apparently allergic to them and the allergist told me not to give McKenzie nuts until she was 3).
Love,
M&M
